We are in the midst of an exciting period of growth and opportunity and are seeking an editor-in-chief with online media/print experience and strong leadership skills to help guide our organization. As a member of our senior management team, this talented, creative leader will design and implement big-picture plans, evaluate the latest trends in interactive media, and lead our skilled editorial staff toward ever-greater heights. We are interested in filling this post as soon as possible; the position is based in Glendale, Arizona (no exceptions), with occasional travel required.
Job Description:
- Guide editorial and design team of 7-plus to produce high-quality nation and international news reporting and analysis in both traditional and multimedia formats
- Working with senior editorial team of three, strengthen quality of current product to expand Global Village Monitor’s reputation as an outstanding venue for the best voices in international community media
- Develop and implement new uses for multimedia formats, new means of content delivery, and new ways of creating and inspiring our community
- Design and maintain an editorial calendar that delivers thoughtful, topical coverage of the most important issues in the environmental realm, following news closely and stepping back to analyze trends and connections
- Identify and recruit outside vendors or freelancers for the development of new content
- Work with internal marketing, business development, and fundraising peers to build and maintain relationships with outside organizations that expand Global Village Monitor’s reach and impact
- Communicate editorial and products plans to the staff and board of directors
- Assist in building and managing an advisory board of online media experts
Required Qualifications:
- At least seven years of editorial experience, including online media
- Experience leading a diverse, strong-minded, and talented team of staff and freelancers
- Demonstrated ability to lead the development of engaging online content that builds website traffic
- Understanding of the opportunities and challenges of online media
- Highly developed knowledge of current events and dedication to forceful, intelligent journalism
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to multitask and thrive under multiple deadlines
- Bachelors degree
- Grace under pressure
